The historical re-enactment of Bevagna called “the gaite market” is one of the most famous in Europe. The medieval village for two weeks at the end of June goes back in time in a truly realistic way. The care in costumes, the recitation of the characters, the reconstruction of environments is made so accurately that one breathes air of the Middle Ages. The 4 districts challenge each other with life representations of the time and a jury of experts including historians and directors is in charge of electing the winner. If you like history and portrait don’t miss this annual event. Steve Mc Curry, invited by the Umbria region to promote his territories, was in Bevagna in 2012 and disguised in medieval style so as not to be recognized, he created some images, one of which became the poster for subsequent editions. The girl portrayed has become testimonial of Umbria in the world.
